Against the report that Kanu was arrested in the UK, Kanu was arrested in Czech Republic as notification from the Czech Republic officials was sent to the Nigerian government, leading to the arrest of IPOB leader on Saturday in Prague, Czech Republic.

The Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami had said that Kanu will soon be brought before the Federal High Court where he jumped bail.

Upon a short trial before the court, Nnamdi Kanu was granted permission to speak. He opened up on why he escaped from the country inspite of the criminal charges against him.

Kanu told the court in the presence of heavily armed security operatives that his house was unlawfully invaded by security men with his life seriously threatened.

The self-acclaimed Biafran leader further alleged that he would have been killed along with others on the day of the invasion if not for the wisdom he applied to jump out of the country.

As stated by Bar. Ifeanyi Ejiofor , he was brought before the Federal High Court No 2 Abuja today on an Eleven count charge without their knowledge.

He insisted that he must be given a fair hearing/trial which is his constitutionally protected right. Adding that his safety must also be guaranteed under their law throughout the trial and afterwards.

“Our fortified Legal team will be meeting to agree on strategies within the context of the Charge and disposition of the Court.”

Although the continuation of trial was originally slated for October 20, 2021, it was brought downward to July 26, 2021, for his lawyers to appear for his defense.

He will be tried on charges bordering on terrorism, treasonable felony, unlawful possession of firearms and management of an unlawful society.
